This course introduces the foundational ideas of disability, inclusion, and the models that shape how society understands disability. You’ll explore where barriers begin, why they persist, and how to start dismantling them—building the “why” behind every choice you’ll make as an accessibility professional. The course also covers how to create spaces, products, and experiences that work for everyone from the start, focusing on how universal design builds inclusivity directly into what we create. Topics include an overview of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and the seven foundational principles of universal design.
Through structured sections based on the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) Body of Knowledge, you'll dive into key concepts that are crucial for fostering equity and belonging in our communities, schools, workplaces, and beyond.
